Whiplash claim news
Lancashire sees drop in personal injury claims
The Lancashire Telegraph is reporting that whiplash injury claims in the BB post code area of Lancashire have dropped by 10 per cent this year.
Blackburn, Burnley, Rossendale, Accrington, Pendle and the Ribble Valley are in an area of England which has some of the most expensive car insurance premiums – largely due to the high rate of personal injury compensation claims for whiplash injury in the region.
Jack Straw, Labour MP for Blackburn, called for insurance costs to be reduced.
He said, "Part of the motor insurance premium is based on the number of personal injury claims arising from people in the area. So if you have an active personal injury specialist in the area it bumps up the claims for everyone in the area.
"The BB area has a higher than average number of claims for personal injury. Some people have seen insurance premiums double and it's crazy."
The figures, produced by an independent APIL (Association of Personal injury Lawyers) survey, revealed that in 2010/11 8,423 claims were made, whereas in 2011/12 this figure fell to 7,574.
