Texan road traffic accident makes Mother's Day tragedy

A Texas road traffic accident has resulted in tragedy for one family, as a man driving to make a surprise visit to his mother on Mother's Day was killed.

The mother said that she had had no idea her son was planning a visit. "They've always loved to surprise me," she said.

The car crash was caused by a vehicle in the opposite lane swerving across the road. Police put this down to "driver inattention". The passenger in this vehicle, a college professor, also received a fatal personal injury in the collision.
