Personal injury compensation news 05/11/2008
Multi-million pound settlement for road accident claimantA 23-year-old man has received personal injury compensation of £3.5 million after suffering a brain injury and being left nearly completely blind by an April 2004 road accident. The claimant had been only 18 when he was passenger in a friend's car, which became involved in a collision with another vehicle on a Leicestershire A-road. The claimant's personal injury compensation settlement was reduced to 85% of its potential value as he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was therefore considered partly responsible for some of his injuries. In addition to the £3.5 million personal injury compensation awarded to the young man, the judge awarded £25,000 to his mother in recognition of the fact she had "borne a huge burden of care." In summarising, the judge said, "I'm quite satisfied that I should approve this order. "This settlement should take a lot of the burden of care off the shoulders of [the claimant's] mother."
