Personal injury compensation for brain damaged man
A man who was left severely brain damaged when he was knocked down by a drunken car thief has been awarded personal injury compensation of several million pounds.
The 44-year-old was hit by the joyrider outside his Brighton home in February 2003 and, as well as a brain injury, he was left with a multitude of broken bones.
The 19-year-old youth at the wheel fled the scene of the car accident but was later arrested and jailed after pleading guilty to charges of aggravated vehicle-taking and failing to stop after a road accident.
Such were the painter and decorator's injuries that he will require care for the remainder of his days and is now living in a rehabilitation centre in Northampton.
His personal injury solicitor spoke to journalists after the damages were awarded and said: "This is a brilliant result because he is going to require care for the rest of his life."
