Public undervalue personal injury claims

A survey conducted by a UK no win, no fee solicitor firm has revealed that the majority of Brits underestimate the potential value of personal injury claims.

For example, 61% of respondents said that they thought a fractured arm would be compensated with less than £5,000. However, such an injury is usually awarded around £1,000 more than this figure.

Similarly, 46% of those polled said they believed a broken leg would be compensated with less than £5,000, when the true figure for leg break is closer to £9,000.

2,000 people participated in the poll, conducted by no win, no fee solicitor firm Hubbard Pegman & Whitney.

A spokesperson from the firm commented that the survey shows many people may not realize just how much a no win, no fee solicitor can do for them, "Not only are most compensation awards unspectacular, but most people actually have very modest expectations, typically in-line with average awards or even expecting substantially less," he said.

Adding, "Our research indicates to us that most people only want fair and reasonable compensation when they are injured at work. While large compensation awards for seemingly minor injuries and slights rightly attract hostile media attention, the reality is that awards for most workplace injuries - often nasty ones - are generally much more modest."
