Lagger awarded asbestos compensation

A Barrow-based man has been awarded £70,000 after making a mesothelioma claim against the insurers of the shipyard that once employed him.

Earlier, his mesothelioma claim writ explained that the man had been exposed to asbestos while working as a lagger for a shipbuilding company.

The man's personal injury solicitor commented, "He was diagnosed with fatal cancer of the lining of the lung, mesothelioma, in April this year. There is no cure for the disease which is caused by exposure to asbestos. Many sufferers die within months of diagnosis.

"Following diagnosis he sought advice from Barrow Asbestos Related Disease Support Group and he instructed asbestos claims specialists… to pursue a claim for compensation."

The claimant's daughter told local press that it was important her father's mesothelioma case was resolved quickly and that she was glad solicitors had succeeded in doing so.
