Whiplash claim hot spots in the UK are revealed
Recent figures have emerged which reveal that more people in Liverpool claim for whiplash injuries than in any other part of the country.
Uxbridge and Oldham are close behind on the list, which shows the geographical differences in whiplash claims across the UK.
The figures show that 22 people out of 1,000 involved in a car accident in Liverpool said they suffered from whiplash injuries.
In Uxbridge there were 21 people out of 1,000 claiming such injuries while in Oldham there were 20.
In contrast, Scotland has been revealed as having much lower numbers with just three claims per 1,000 in the areas of Edinburgh and Dundee.
The data has been obtained following a Freedom of Information request by the Financial Times, which also showed that fraudulent claims are costing the insurance industry £2 billion a year.
From 2005 to 2010, the number of whiplash injury claims being made increased by 70 per cent despite the number of car accidents decreasing by 23 per cent in the same period.
