Driver makes £25k fraudulent claim

A man who made a fraudulent accident claim for more than £25,000 has been jailed for six months after the car crash scam was uncovered.

The 30-year-old from Hanley claimed an illegal immigrant had crashed into his car and caused injuries to him and his two passengers in October 2008.

Both a 39-year-old male passenger and 19-year-old female passenger were involved in the scam and told police and doctors that they had sustained personal injuries in the car crash.

However road traffic collision experts discovered that the Hanley man's car had been stationary when it had supposedly been struck.

All three passengers admitted guilt to the fraudulent claim and were sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court in relation to the offence.

The fraudulent accident claim driver was jailed for six months and sentenced to 250 hours of unpaid work and 10 sessions of education and training. He also had to pay towards his prosecution costs.
