Jail for fatal car crash footballer who drove at 124mph

A Championship football league player has been jailed for killing a father-of-five in a high speed car accident on the M1 on Christmas Day 2008.

Jordan Robertson, aged 21, a striker for Sheffield United who was on loan to Southampton FC at the time, was sent to prison for 32 months after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

The court was told he was driving at around 124mph and changing a track on his iPod music system when his Mercedes sports car ploughed into the back of a Ford Galaxy in the car crash near Lutterworth, Leicestershire.

It is not known if his victim's family will be pursuing a personal injury compensation claim as a result of the court case concerning the car accident.
