Police seek to apprehend hit-and-run driverA hit-and-run car accident in County Durham has resulted in the tragic death of a 26-year-old father as well as serious injuries to the man's two-year-old son. The hit-and-run car accident happened on the A688. Police say that the accident may be linked to an alcohol theft at a local supermarket that occurred only minutes before. "It is believed that, shortly before the incident, the occupants of the vehicle were involved in a theft at the Asda supermarket in South Church Road, Bishop Auckland," a police spokesperson said. He added, "Investigators are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the theft or saw the vehicle travelling between that location and the scene of the collision." The vehicle involved in the car accident soon collided with a tree and was found in a ditch. The two backseat passengers had to be cut free from the wreckage and were thought to be suffering whiplash. However, the driver and front seat passenger fled the scene and are now being sought by police.
