Whiplash injury compensation
If you have been involved in a road traffic accident it is possible that you may now be suffering from whiplash. Whiplash affects more than 20% of people who were in a vehicle at the time of an accident. If the accident was not your fault then you may be entitled to claim whiplash injury compensation provided it can be shown that the accident was someone else’s fault. The Accident Compensation People deal with thousands of cases every year and help people to claim personal injury compensation for their injuries.
What is whiplash?
Whiplash is an injury affecting the neck and back. It occurs when a car hits another from the rear and the passengers of the car in front are thrown forwards. Firstly the head and shoulders will be thrown forwards with the impact; secondly as the driver reacts by putting their foot hard on the brake the body is thrown back again, with the head hitting the head rest. This motion occurs within a couple of seconds and causes injury to the soft tissue in the neck. The symptoms of whiplash are as follows:
- Pain in the neck, back and shoulders
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Numbness in the hands and arms
- Sleeplessness
- Irritability
The symptoms of whiplash can appear hours or days after the accident and last anything from a few days to, in rare cases, a couple of years.
