The safest time to be on the roads is in the very early hours of the morning, when there is less traffic, although the number of car accidents between 10 and 11 am is also slightly lower than during the rest of the day.
Pedestrian accidents
The most likely pedestrians to be involved in a road accident are children under 16 on their way back from school, between 3 pm and 5 pm . There were 718 casualties seriously injured or killed between 3 pm and 4 pm in 2002. There is also a peak between 8 am and 9 am , when children are on their way to school.
