Lewisham residents have asbestosis scare

Following the removal of an advertising display board next to a bus stop in Ladywell Road, Lewisham residents have shown their concern about the revelation of a suspicious substance that could be asbestos.

A local builder, Mr White, identified the asbestos and his wife contacted Lewisham council who have requested that the landowner have it removed.

The health effects of asbestos such as asbestosis and mesothelioma have been well-documented in the media of late. More specifically, the ongoing debate of the personal injury claim ruling concerning asbestosis cases has caused uproar.

Mrs White has expressed her concern about the safety of her family, especially her two-year-old daughter. She also added: ‘There is a row of little houses next to the bus stop and I wonder if they know what they are living beside.’

The local council seem to be taking this scare very seriously and have said: ‘We have now given the land owners seven days’ notice, after which we will commence legal action if the waste containing asbestos is not removed.’
